It came skipping
in exuberance unchecked.
A child with something to say.

It left,
deflated.
Dismissed by the one it would engage,

and aged.

  1. So sad and has far-reaching effects for the child. As a child I learnt to close down with what I wanted to say and yes, the child does ‘age’ when not being heard. Even today as a 70 yr old I hold most of my thoughts as just that – ‘thoughts’ but through poetry I have discovered a way to express what I really want to say. You have a real talent for expressing accurately what can occur. Well written!
