Six Word Story (101)

There was life and when it passed it left an absence behind.

That gap gives structure as it works alongside presence.

Look for the stories of absence. They are everywhere, just like the stories of those that help are always present in the middle of tragedy. We need both as surely as we need bread.

Six Word Story (100)

We usually leave our Christmas Tree up until the end of January. We can’t always get a real tree, but in the years we do it’s a slow battle with falling needles and my love for the scent of natural pine.

We watch as the moisture slowly leaches from branches despite regular watering. This tree was cut and its time has come.

Ironic that my love for a living thing pushed me to kill it.

It reminds me of that someone who was born long ago, just to die.

You might ask why I am writing about this now, Christmas is over, isn’t it? Our open celebration of it might be, but it is always a reminder and an arrow pointing to another tree cut long ago. We are in an in-between time, the perfect time to remember.

Peace

Present places
present faces
in the moment here with you

Touching sunlight
touching evening
side by side in all I do

In comings
follow goings
always knowing you have space

Quiet moments
hectic motions
anchored inside grace

Such protection
unseen deflection
learning ever to remain

In the sphere
of your promise
knowing every tear of pain

is treasured
measured
in the palm of your hand

Ensuring
your enduring
present peace before me spanned

Six Word Story (99)

The amazing intricacy of the world we live in is staggering.

The science, the art, the spiritual glue, it all connects and rolls together to the ticking of seconds.

It can seem eternal. As our brains measure time, maybe it is.

I do believe that someday there will be an end and time will run out, just as water evaporates from a cup.

But as evaporation is a kind of transformation, our earth, and us, will not really cease but simply change.

I believe God is the one who wrote the rules for these systems as he creates art.

What will he have us change into when the time comes?

I don’t know. But I can dream.

Joy

Found in simple spaces
when lights have dimmed to ease
weariness of day from shoulders prone.

In the morning beams
where radiance sings
reserving stage for feathered accompaniment notes.

Shimmers in the shadows
like the fuzziness of heat,
but greats in bells that chime with chirping mirth.

Often hid amid
wide open space
blending with a magic you can not trace.

Given to the few
who look beyond circumstance
to find the lines God painted beneath.

Even when awash,
paying untold cost,
finding treasure hid and hold relief.

Six Word Story (98)

What sticks to you like glitter?

What small thing gives you a smile in it unexpectedly glints at you from a tabletop, or child’s cheek?

What makes you groan with annoyance when dumped in a pile, hang hangs around for months only to bring a tear to your eye when you remember that sweet soul you miss?

Glitter, I often don’t like you, but many are the things you can teach me.

Love Is

Something felt and
something done
An action filled emotion.
Understood
by not a one

Something that was broken.
Something
to fill its cracks
Something that’s so human
yet everybody lacks.

Something that is given,
flowing free
from Calvary
Something overlooked
by lost humanity

Hell is something’s absence
a solitude of soul
Hell on earth
refuses
to give something control

Something
beyond our passions
It pushes past our fear
Something so elusive
yet need is crystal clear

Something that lingers
still present
on our world.
Something that is woven
into every atom curled

Something is a someone
He set the world
to spin
Yet He made my soul
To him, I am a kin

Someone who is calling
wooing
humankind
Back into His arms
that are with something lined.
